Sunday’s Cool – Hosanna! is volume 2 and I am sorry I missed volume 1.  I must look out for it.

This volume contains 12 modern songs aimed at 5-12 year olds, but would be equally suitable for all-age worship as they are not at all “twee”, and adults would enjoy singing them. Most of the songs have an Easter theme - 'Hosanna', 'We’re Following Jesus', 'Easter Jubilation', 'Risen!' -  but others could be sung at any time of the year, as could the Easter ones as well, of course! Some of the tunes are lively and catchy, others are steady and thoughtful and the musical styles vary throughout.

The piano accompaniment has guitar chords added and the lyrics are printed at the end of the book; the lyrics also appear on the CD, which acts as a CD-Rom so they can be printed for OHP or digital projection. Each song appears twice on the CD – sung by children with a professional backing track and again with just the backing track.

The words of the songs present a strong Christian commitment and would therefore be unsuitable for many school situations in today’s society. (“We’re following Jesus, he’s the only way to heaven, ‘cause he gave his life for me”).

It lifted my spirits just to listen to the CD and I know children (and young-at-heart adults!) would really enjoy learning these songs and performing them in church.
