Focussing on Christian, Hindu, Muslim and secular teachings, this book offers a range of activities, websites, pictures and photocopy-able sheets to provoke discussion about beliefs. Whilst some of the activities have been around for a while it is good to have them specifically formatted for this topic and there are a number of well resourced activities that should engage pupils both in thought and written work, and discussions. Two pages entitled ‘Access’ and Challenge’ provide some activity specific differentiation ideas. There are some useful ‘levelling’ statements, as well as a couple of activities for more able 14 year olds and some extension activities. Some of the activities would be less relevant for KS4 although the resources could be easily adaptable for more thought provoking tasks.
I particularly liked the “Why should I lead a good life when ‘The Good Life’ is on offer?” section and found the links it makes with other aspects of RE and other subjects useful too.
Although the increased use of colour in this compared with other RE Today publications certainly makes it an attractive book, the need for colour on the pages specifically to be photocopied is potentially expensive! There is some lovely pupil artwork inside the back cover, but as yet I have found no suggestions about how it might be used, although I assume all RE teachers could find a way!
